On this site are recent paintings done in oil. I primarily use a palette knife. I love the thick texture and the happy little mistakes that happen along the creative process.

State Line Pastures ©

I competed this quick study primarily using my palette knife.  The horses are grazing on a pasture down the road from our home.  I have been wanting to paint these horses for awhile now.  This little masterpiece is the first in a series of horse paintings I plan to complete in the near future.

Winter Thaw is a Plein air painting I did when it warmed up last weekend.  This is a creek that is just down the road from where I live......so beautiful!! I thought you might enjoy seeing what I saw as I painted this small masterpiece in the snow.

IMWolf Buddies ©

I put this painting together from several pictures that I had taken up in Ely, Minnesota......and the North Woods of Wisconsin.  I love the serenity of the forest.

Winter In The Northwoods ©

"Winter in the Northwoods" is another small masterpiece of a scene in Ely, Minnesota.  I used several of my reference photos and continued to practice making my paintings more impressionistic. I am using a new technique I call paint and destroy.  I put down a preliminary layer of paint and then I use a large brush to "destroy".  By taking large, broad strokes over the top of the painting, I add a lot of movement and create a more impressionistic style.  I am pleased with the results.

Winter Splendor ©

I think I captured the feelings I had that day: ice cold winter, freezing cold.

Just Around the Corner ©

On a cold winter's day on the prairie, a broken down fence caught my eye.  It was a cold day for plein air painting.
